The Good Life

What makes a good life? To do what we were designed to do. Live in accordance with nature. What is our nature?

  • Honor our parents
  • Support our friends
  • Be agreeable to our fellow men
  • Be wary of "hedonic adaption"

"Negative visualization" (the act of reflecting on loss of family, possessions, status, etc) prepares us for the impermanence of the world. Also makes us appreciate.

Rather than focusing your life on self-indulgence, focus on self-discipline and self-sacrifice. Fame and fortune aren't worth having. Not least if we value tranquility.

"Nothing is worth doing pointlessly", Marcus Aurelius

How to introduce stoicism into one's life?

  • Practice "stealth stocisim"
  • Practice negative visualization (during idle time)
  • Reflect on the tricotomy of control
  • Accept the past, whatever it might have been. Accept the present, whatever it might be.
  • Gather and relish insults. Although refuse to play the "insult game"
